*2007 vote on Trident replacement*

Parliament will vote on the possibility of a replacement for the Trident nuclear deterrent systems early next year, it has been announced.
The Government will bring forward a White Paper on the issue before Christmas, which will then be followed by a “period of debate”, the Prime Minister's official spokesman said.

The UK Parliamentary Defence Select Committee published “The Future of the UK's Strategic Nuclear Deterrent: the Strategic Context” on 30th June 2006.
They note that the MOD refused to give evidence to their inquiry, and conclude that not replacing Trident is an option for the government to consider.
