AWE Planning Notice for the Laser and its Building
Despite receiving hundreds of objections, last night West Berkshire Council Planning Committee gave the go-ahead for the Ministry of Defence – the landowner – (via the private consortium managing AWE) to build a new laser facility at AWE Aldermaston.

URGENT UPDATE 28th October 2003
Two Notices of Proposed Developments for facilities at AWE Burghfield and Aldermaston have been received by West Berkshire County Council, one for the erection of new gas meter housings, packaged boiler houses and replacement electical substations at Burghfield. The other for a new laser facility at Aldermaston. Click here to read the October NIS Update containing further details.

To date, no Notice of Planning has been received by West Berkshire Council
from AWE regarding the new Strategy Plan, although a site has been cleared
for the new accommodation and conference centre. It is now 15 months since
A network of British local authorities have lodged a formal complaint with the European Commission against the British government, based on their assertion that the health and well-being of the general public becomes severely compromised by breaches of European law by the British Ministry of Defence over the disposal of radioactive waste from a nuclear weapons plant at Aldermaston, one of the central sites of Britain’s nuclear weapon’s industry since the 1950s.
