I am looking for a challenging role within a design environment to further develop my skills as a professional engineer.
EMPLOYMENT HISTORY
ATOMIC WEAPONS ESTABLISHMENT, ALDERMASTON
Project Manager, Nuclear Physics Package Safeing Apr 2000 - Mar 2002
· Leader of a project team, responsible for the development of a range of technologies for the safeing of warhead nuclear physics packages, including enablement systems, nuclear component insertion schemes and enhanced safety valves.
· Technical Secretary for the prestigious UK/US Joint Working Group on Nuclear Weapons Engineering. Responsible for the organization and reporting of a programme of international exchanges, including the review and selection of papers for presentation.
· Mentor to a graduate engineer, providing guidance on professional development.
· My main achievement was the management of a series of high-pressure trials to optimize the design of a warhead enablement system. Completed on time and within budget, meeting the contractual requirements of a company payment milestone.
Senior Engineer, Test Equipment and Tooling Aug 1997 - Mar 2000
· Member of a project team, responsible for the design and development of a range of specialized press tooling and high-pressure test equipment.
· Developed and commissioned a 10 tonne press and associated tooling for the production of compacted metal-powder beds.
· My main achievement was the development of a high-pressure test facility for conducting potentially hazardous research on metal-hydride chemistry. Included the subcontracted development of an integrated control and data acquisition system. As technical authority for the contract, I gained valuable experience in contract liaison.
Senior Engineer, Warhead Gas Systems Aug 1993 - Jul 1997
· Member of a project team, responsible for the design and development of a range of prototype gas boost systems for conceptual nuclear warheads.
· Developed a computer-based methodology for modelling gas boost system performance, incorporating empirical gas property codes, flow models and chemical exchange data.
· My main achievement was the development and timely delivery of a number of prototype gas systems, including one developed in collaboration with a US weapon laboratory.
GraduateEngineer Nov 1992 - Jul 1993
· Completed a structured training programme with placements in site services maintenance, capital project management and warhead subsystem design departments.
MINISTRY OF DEFENCE - STUDENT ENGINEER TRAINING SCHEME
TrainingPlacements (2 months each) Summers, 1989 - 1991
